Vidya Balan said, 'Social change changed the stories of women in cinema'
With her very first film 'Parineeta', Vidya Balan has set a standard for female characters in Hindi cinema. Her films based on female-oriented subjects also started a different trend in Hindi cinema. Vidya Balan from 'The Dirty Picture' Coming to 'Tumhari Sulu', 'Mission Mangal' and 'Shakuntala Devi', every time a new example of success has been created in male dominated Hindi cinema. Every time your cinema carries a message, what is the message this time?
I think a film like 'Lion' has not been made in Hindi cinema yet. This is not just a story based in the jungle. This is the story of the forest. I am playing the role of a forest department officer who is determined to do whatever it takes to keep the forest and the animals safe in a male dominated system. She is forging her own path. trying to do things his own way has been At the same time, this film is also telling how whatever we do has an impact on the forests and the environment.
In a male-dominated cinema, when an actress plays a title character like 'Shakuntala Devi', 'Lioness', 'Tumhari Sulu' or Begum Jaan', will the expectations of her consistently deliver successful films increase?
I am not making any special effort like this. But yes, when such films go on, more such films will be made and everyone will benefit. I am not the only actress who is doing female-oriented films. Cinema is the mirror of society, so society This change is happening in I would not say that the society is also changing from male dominated to female dominated, but yes an equal society is being formed. Because of this our stories have also started to emerge. You still don't have trouble working with new directors. 'Parineeta' was also Pradeep Sarkar's first film. Now when you watch this film, is there any scope for betterment?
I don't see anything wrong with that film. that was my first movie I can't be objective about it. A lot of people in this film were making cinema for the first time. There was so much excitement on the set that there was nothing else in our life then. That film will always be special for all of us. Till now you have spent 16 years in Hindi cinema. During this time did you ever feel that if I get to direct this film, I can do better?
Any plans to become a director?
No, I don't want to be a director. I don't have that skill and courage Neither is. I have produced a small film but other than that I am not interested in becoming a producer. Being a producer is a very courageous thing.
When I look at my husband (Siddharth Roy Kapur) I understand that father, who has to handle whom? And how long do you have to wait for everything.
