Actor Ananya Dutta: What are actress Ananya Dutta's feelings about International women's day on 8th March?
For me everyday is women's day. I live on my own and my career is managed by myself. And I have grown up in a family where women did a lot of work traditionally done by men as the men were always travelling for work. So I was literally brought up as the Male kid of the house since I was an only child.
However I think women's day celebrations are important as they remind us of the discrimination that women face in the lower socio economic strata of society. Where they are treated as second class citizen to men. So 8th march to me is not about champagne celebrations and social media posts but about the women in those conditions who dont have the privileges that we do.
It is a reminder to bow our heads to those women who work to support their families, cut vegetables on their way back from work on trains, cook for their husbands and take care of their children all with a smile on their faces.
A reminder to celebrate the women who fight their way in a man's world to reach success in male dominated professions such as judges, police, army and even astronauts.
It's time you respected the maid who works in your home. the fisher-woman who supplies your seafood, the female uber driver. and it's time to watch women's cricket.
Happy women's day to all the empowered women in our society!
